Compatible Accessories

Chromatose is built around widely used interoperability standards - including MIDI, HDMI, USB-C, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi. So devices and software that follow those standards should generally work.

Refer to the User Manual section on Connecting Peripherals for additional details.

The items below are just a sample of accessories/tools that have been tested, or that Chromatose users have reported to work well.

Compatibility can still vary depending on firmware versions, adapters/cables, and device/app settings. Chromatose is not affiliated with or sponsored by any of the brands listed here.

HDMI Video Adapters

UGREEN Revodok 206

This is a solid adapter for devices with a USB-C port. It allows video output at 4K resolution, connecting additional accessories via USB-A ports, and can power the device using USB-C PD.

Apple Lightning Digital AV Adapter

Only for older devices with a lightning port (not USB-C). For lightning connectivity Apple’s official adapters tend to work best.

Caution: similar cheap products may not work at all, or may not actually support 1080p resolution.

MIDI Controllers

M-VAVE SMC-Mixer

An extremely affordable compact MIDI controller. Great for mobile setups because it’s fully wireless, due to its rechargeable battery and Bluetooth MIDI support. Note: it can be slightly laggy compared to other controllers, but not a bad tradeoff at this price!

Novation Launch Control XL

This controller comes with loads of faders, endless encoders, and assignable buttons. So there’s no shortage of mapping possibilities. Solid build, sleek design, smooth feel. Also great for mixing and controlling DAWs, etc. Supports high-resolution NRPN CC.

MIDI Fighter Twister

Knob-focused MIDI controller with 16 push encoders, LED feedback, and bank-based control layouts. Excellent minimal choice for Chromatose control.

Ableton Push 3

Ableton’s flagship expressive instrument/controller tightly integrated with Ableton Live. Control options consist of 64 expressive pads and 8 endless encoders that map well to Chromatose.

Eurorack Modules

Many modules on the market convert from MIDI to CV, but those won’t work. To get MIDI out of your modular to control Chromatose we need modules that go the other direction, from CV to MIDI.

Befaco CV Thing

A compact 6HP CV-to-MIDI converter with 8 assignable inputs.

This is the perfect companion module to integrate Chromatose into your Eurorack system. It converts 8 separate CV signals to MIDI that can control all 8 of Chromatose’s macro knobs. Solid Befaco build quality, intuitive setup, super responsive. It has many configuration options, including high-resolution NRPN CC.

Hardware Sequencers / Instruments

Elektron Digitakt

A modern sampler/drum-machine known for its intuitive sequencer workflow that excels for live performance. Use the 8 knobs to control Chromatose’s macros, and the sequencer to sequence the changes. Just create a MIDI track, set each knob to send a different CC value. Supports high-resolution NRPN CC.

Digitakt MK1 and Syntakt setup/workflows are nearly identical and also known to work well.

Software

Ableton Live

Send MIDI Clock and CC messages over the network to control Chromatose with Ableton.
